New governor hasnt made decisions on Jindal-era lawsuits

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal became embroiled in three high-profile lawsuits involving issues targeted by conservatives during his failed bid for the Republican presidential nomination: Planned Parenthood, Common Core and same-sex marriage.

His Democratic successor, Gov. John Bel Edwards, however, appears to be in no rush to wade into the controversies.

Federal judges refused to let Jindal’s health department cut off Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood clinics and rejected Jindal’s claim that President Barack Obama’s administration was illegally pressuring states to adopt Common Core education standards.

Edwards spokesman Richard Carbo says the governor hasn’t decided whether to continue appeals of the rulings.

Jindal also was sued for his executive order giving special protections to people who oppose same-sex marriage. Edwards hasn’t said whether he’ll rescind the order to end the lawsuit.
